— FAQ

Answers to common questions.

The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation is regarded as the gold standard for financial planning. It requires a bachelor’s degree, completion of a rigorous course of study, a comprehensive examination, documented experience, ongoing continuing education, and an ethics pledge to the CFP Board. Both Jimmy and Bobby Hofman hold the CFP® designation. When you work with a CFP®, you are working with someone whose training is not limited to investments — it covers retirement, estate, tax, insurance, and the full breadth of a family’s financial life.

The Certified Private Wealth Advisor® designation, granted by the Investments & Wealth Institute, is an advanced credential focused specifically on the planning needs of high-net-worth families — generally those with five million or more in investable assets. It covers tax strategy at scale, estate architecture, business transitions, executive compensation, charitable planning, and the behavioral patterns that shape how wealthy families plan and decide. Both Jimmy and Bobby hold the CPWA®.

The Certified Investment Management Analyst® designation is an advanced credential in investment management methodology: portfolio construction, risk management, alternative investments, and manager selection. It is the most technically rigorous investment credential offered by the Investments & Wealth Institute. Bobby Hofman holds the CIMA®, which informs how we construct and oversee the portfolios our families rely on.

A fiduciary is legally and ethically required to act in the client’s best interest at all times. This is different from a suitability standard, under which an advisor may recommend products that are merely appropriate — even if a better, less expensive option exists for the client. Hofman Wealth Management is a fiduciary firm. This standard governs every decision we make. We are compensated by our clients, not by product commissions. If a recommendation is not in your best interest, we will not make it.

Yes. As an independent advisory firm, we are not captive to any single investment company, bank, or insurance provider. Our recommendations are based on what is right for the family, not on what we are compensated to sell. We chose this structure deliberately. It shapes what we can do for the families we serve.

Our fees come directly from you, not from commissions or product sales. Most of our relationships are structured as a percentage of the assets we manage, which covers financial planning, investment management, and ongoing stewardship. There are no hidden fees, no product commissions, and no surprises. Our fee schedule is transparent and discussed in full before any engagement begins.

Forbes, in partnership with SHOOK Research, publishes an annual list of Best-in-State Wealth Management Teams based on criteria including assets under management, revenue production, industry experience, compliance records, and qualitative review. Hofman Wealth Management was named to the 2026 list. This recognition is not paid for, and it is not a guarantee of future results — it is a third-party acknowledgment of the practice we have built.

The Forbes ranking of Best-In-State Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, was awarded to Hofman Wealth Management in January 2026. Data compiled by Shook Research LLC was based on the time period from 3/31/24 to 3/31/25. Being a Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisor does not mean Hofman Wealth Management is ranked the top advisor in the state. The ranking includes many advisors in the state that have been awarded the “best-in-state” distinction.

The ranking is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. Those advisors that are considered have a minimum of seven years of experience, and the algorithm weighs factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criterion due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Rankings are based on the opinions of SHOOK Research, LLC and are not indicative of future performance or representative of any one client’s experience; the firm’s research and rankings provide opinions for how to choose the right financial advisor. Investors must carefully choose the right advisor for their own situation and perform their own due diligence. Ratings should not be considered an endorsement of the adviser by any client.

Neither Forbes nor SHOOK are a client of Hofman Wealth Management, nor do they receive a fee in exchange for rankings. Once placed on a ranking, advisors may choose to pay fees to Forbes and Shook for premium listing features on Forbes directory of top advisors, use of the ranking logo or reprint of the ranking.

Additional information on the ranking methodology can be found at forbes.com and SHOOKresearch.com
